Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Clean, bright play space. Good selection of board games. Store specializes in Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Magic: the Gathering, Star Wars Unlimited Lorcana and Pokemon TCG.

Pros: Good selection of games and they can work on your consoles and cartridges for you. Cons: Up charges are often around 50% of market value as of the writing of this review. Its a bit on the expensive side, definitely more-so than I’m willing to put under the category of “Support your LGS”. With that being said, its hard to run this type of business these days so take that into consideration. The staff is overall pleasant and personable. Its a great store for a casual stroll and maybe a quick purchase, but its not the home-base kind of LGS that I personally enjoy.

Okay I want to get real here for a second. I have been contemplating making this comment for a couple days but it just keeps nagging at me. I hope in posting it, it helps people and the business in the future. I have some concerns I feel really need to be considered and addressed. I have come into the game store a couple of times and have been in awe of the selection of games, the kindness of painting nights and the fun look of the place. On the other hand I have seen and heard uncomfortable topics such as sex, suicide, and disrespect on those who have passed away multiple times being discussed openly in the store. I understand you can’t always control what customers say coming in but most of these conversations have been the staff starting or playing into them. They aren’t quiet about it and they often make crude jokes about personal people’s lives. This wasn’t in relation to certain games and their lore either, but people that they actually knew. Making comments on suicide and laughing about it when it was an actual person who had tragically lost their life and the family it affected! I don’t care how you felt about that person, this is wrong. Me and the person I was with were so uncomfortable and frustrated we walked out of the store and this isn’t the 1st time either. I’ve heard people fantasize and joke about inappropriate clothing, or causally joke about death in crude ways. This stuff is hurtful and not something to mess around with. If your talking about it, it’s extremely unprofessional to speak and joke about it so openly in front of customers even if it’s just a joke. It isn’t right. I don’t usually comment on this stuff but in an environment that could have kids in and out, people struggling with said tough topics or just anyone coming in, it’s uncomfortable and I hope that one day I can feel safe coming back again. The main reason for this review is to raise awareness and to hopefully see some changes to at least keep these conversations behind closed doors if you must. Anyway this is already long. I just felt like I needed to get it out there.

This was my third time coming to Gamer Planet. The first time, which was maybe two months ago, was perfect, no issues at all; however the past two times I went, there’s been some pretty major issues. The second time I went, the game I wanted to play wasn’t updated and I asked the only staff available if there was something she could do, like give me and my partner another computer where the game would probably be updated. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem like she wanted to help at all and told us we could lock our computers as the game updated which shouldn’t affect the time. The timer was still going down with the computer locked and I tried to get her attention only to find her napping on the couch in the middle of the room with her AirPods in both ears, so we left. The third time, the same staff member was working and the game still wasn’t updated, although this was a couple of weeks after the second time. The lady said they should all be updated and we showed her our screens. Another customer also had to wait for the same game to be updated on their computer. We had two hours added to make up for it, which it took exactly that much time for the game to update. The update was only 7GBs and the internet was really unstable as it went (I could see the download details on the Epic Games Launcher). The game was still laggy after playing a bit, then after about 10 minutes, everyone’s computer in the lobby crashed and restarted. What about the staff member you may ask? She was warned about it happening by another customer and was told to contact her superiors, and when the computers finally crashed, everyone walked out the lobby and she was still just sitting there on that couch.

Gamer's Choice, based in NYC, is your ultimate gaming destination with unbeatable prices. While specializing in Yu-Gi-Oh!, we’re expanding into Pokémon and Magic. Visit our online store or NYC retail location to play, shop, and connect with fellow gamers.

The staff at Gamer's Gambit are some of the kindest, most genuine, most welcoming individuals I've ever met at a local game store, and I'm saying that as someone who visits Local Game Stores on vacation for fun because I just like board games that much. Additionally, the store has chosen to actively support and be a safe space for all members of it's community at a time where that is not an easy choice to make as a small business. If you live close enough to visit Gamer's Gambit, and especially if you are a part of those communities who might need a safe place away from home to be from time to time, you would be doing yourself a great favor by visiting.
