I was traveling for work and decided to stop in to Clockwork Games for a Friday night magic draft to blow off some steam and relax after my shift. The gentleman behind the counter was welcoming and friendly (even going so far as to lend a charger to one of the players), and the folks I was paired against were wonderful as well. Not only is the shop inviting and inclusive, it's clean and well lit, with adequate space and seating for their events. Unlike some other shops, the store has clean restrooms and a decent selection of food and drinks to make the long gaming sessions just that much more pleasant. If I ever find myself in the area again I will definitely be coming back.
Coming here has been more than an awesome experience, and he is very nice, attentive, and talks with everyone who walks in, no matter who you are. He showed us more than enough love to come back more often than we have. He gave us some pretty nice deals, and the card shop smells very nice and is super clean and has lots of stuff. Amoung all of this they have plenty of things and host events.
I had a great experience at Clockwork Games when I went in to buy prerelease boxes for Magic: The Gathering. The staff was helpful, the shop was well-stocked, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable. It is clearly a hub for the local gaming community, and it felt good to be a part of that energy. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the store had a bit of the stereotypical “gamer smell” that people sometimes associate with hobby shops. It is unfortunate, because everything else about the visit was excellent. Regular cleanings and maintaining that nice, fresh smell would go a long way in improving the overall atmosphere. Another idea might be for the store to provide a small selection of free toiletry or hygiene items to discreetly support any customers who might need them. With a little extra attention to keeping things smelling clean, the store would match the professionalism and friendliness it already delivers in terms of service and products. Overall, Clockwork Games is a great stop for Magic players and tabletop fans in Marysville, and I would happily return.
